Description
"Festival of lights in Lyon France" by Mona Edulesco is an original palette knife oil painting on canvas, 18x18cm (7x7inches), 2015 realized in the impasto technique.
I was inspired to paint this modern impressionist palette knife during the Lyon Festival of Lights on the Terreaux square.
The original has been sold to an art collector from Solihull, U.K.
THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS (French: Fete des Lumieres) in Lyon, France expresses gratitude toward Mary, mother of Jesus on December 8 of each year. This uniquely Lyonnaise tradition dictates that every house place candles along the outsides of all the windows to produce a spectacular effect throughout the streets.
With over 4 million tourists coming to Lyon for this event, the festival is probably one of the three biggest festive gatherings in the world in terms of attendance (after the Rio Carnival and Oktoberfest in Munich). The festival includes other activities based on light and usually lasts four days, with the peak of activity occurring on the 8th. The two main focal points of activity are typically the Basilica of Fourviere which is lit up in different colours, and the Place des Terreaux, which hosts a different light show each year.

Right from when I first saw your fabulous paintings Mona I have so enjoyed your night time scenes . I have a child- like fascination with lights and so your illuminated city scenes always evoke such a happy feeling. I just love all the reflected light here and wonderful use of crisp midnight blues and the evocative and beautifully suggested figures. Amazing! L/F

How in the world do you pack so much into a small canvas? That is amazing, it feels like it's 4 feet high! Superb work Mona, great chromatic scheme and such clean execution. Amazing. LF!
