Modern impressionist textured palette knife oil painting on stretched canvas, 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches).
This painting is inspired by my recent trip to Barcelona, earlier this summer. Park Guell is one of my favorite places in Barcelona.... I recall how much I've dreamt to visit it, during the architecture classes when teachers described us the beauty of Gaudi's creation. It is always a far more powerful experience when you can see it in person.
The undulation bench created by Antoni Gaudi is definitely one of the most widely admired elements in the Park Guell. Overlooking the city below, this sinuous bench is clad in ceramic tiles. A mix of sculpture, functionality and surface design, considered one of the great works of art of the 20th century.
I am totally fascinated by this creation of Gaudi. The colors he combined on the mosaic are just so uniquely harmonized and so inspiring.
My approach for this painting consists of a compositional analogy, therefore I have rendered the urban pattern in the background as a sort of colorful mosaic, in my usual stylized manner of depicting the architecture of a city.
