Description
MODERN IMPRESSIONIST PALETTE KNIFE OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS / 35x35 cm/ 2015 / Original no longer available. Sold to an art collector from Portland, ME, United States. Prints available for sale.
This is a palette knife painting. No brush was used to create the work. I only used different types of palette knives to apply thick oil color paint.
I was inspired to paint this street scene during one of my bike rides in the beautiful city of Lyon.
Lyon , traditionally spelt Lyons in English, is a city in east-central France in the Rhone-Alpes region, situated between Paris and Marseille. Etymologically it relates to the Celtic God Lugoves, Lugh as does Laon and Leiden. The residents of the city are called Lyonnais.
The city is known for its historical and architectural landmarks and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lyon was historically known as an important area for the production and weaving of silk and in modern times has developed a reputation as the capital of gastronomy in France. It has a significant role in the history of cinema due to Auguste and Louis Lumiere, who invented the cinematographe in Lyon. The city is also known for its famous light festival 'Fete des Lumieres' which occurs every 8 December and lasts for four days, earning Lyon the title of Capital of Lights.

Mona, you are the most outstanding contemporary painter of city life that I know of! I really mean that. The textures, movement, colors, all so fabulous. I adore your use of orange and blue tones with intermediate mauves and gorgeous splashes of red! You have made this corner café appear beautiful beyond words and I'm sure it is ! L/F
